TRELAWNY, Jamaica–A serving member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has been indicted concerning allegations that he had inappropriate relations with a 14-year-old girl in Trelawny.
The authorities identified the cop as Dewhyn Brown, 44, a resident of Trelawny. He was arrested and charged on Monday, January 22, 2024, under a ruling issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The authorities indicted Brown on five counts of sexual intercourse with a person under 16 and five counts of grievous sexual assault.
According to media reports, the 44-year-old suspect is accused of having an intimate relationship with the child, during which they had sexual intercourse multiple times. The last time was said to be on February 18, 2022.
The report indicated that the illicit relationship came to light in March 2023 when the child’s mother reportedly went through her phone and saw several sexually explicit messages between the child and the policeman.
The mother subsequently reported the matter to the police. The police initiated an investigation. The authorities submitted a file to the office of the DPP, and a ruling was made for the accused to be charged.
Harmony Beach Park Lifeguard on the run after allegations concerning an 11-year-old
A lifeguard employed at Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay, St. James, is reportedly on the run after being accused of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl on the property on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
The man, known as ‘Rasta,’ is approximately 40 years old, of a slim build, dark complexion, and has a dreadlocked hairstyle.
According to Observer Online, the child and her mother were at the beach to swim. While in the water, they separated.
At around 4:00 p.m., while the child was in the water, the suspect, who was on duty as a lifeguard at the venue, allegedly held her around her waist and molested her.
The child kicked the lifeguard and swam towards her mother, who was some distance away, and told her what had occurred.
The mother confronted the suspect, who fled the park and has not been seen since.
Police indicted a St Elizabeth woman with lottery scamming charge
A female suspect, identified as Terriann Jarrett, 25, a customer service representative from Bull Savannah in St Elizabeth, was indicted on lottery scamming charges by Gum Shoes in St. Elizabeth.
The authorities have charged her with knowingly possessing identity information.
The operation took place in Bull Savannah in St Elizabeth, where law enforcement officers conducted a pre-dawn operation and found Jarrett in possession of numerous lead sheets containing the identity information of individuals residing abroad. Subsequently, she was arrested and charged.
Her court date is currently being finalized.
Motorcyclist arrested after illegal gun seizure.
A motorcyclist was apprehended on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, after being discovered with an illegal weapon while attempting to evade police but ultimately crashing into their service vehicle.
Reportedly, a Smith and Wesson pistol and a magazine containing five cartridges were found in a bag in the possession of the suspect.
According to the police, around 12:30 p.m., a team of officers from the St. Catherine North police division was conducting surveillance in the March Pen community in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, when they observed a man with a bag around his neck riding a yellow and black Yamaha motorcycle without a registration plate.
The officers signaled for the driver to stop, but he allegedly disregarded their instructions and collided with the front of the service vehicle, causing the motorcycle to overturn.
The suspect was detained by the police, and the illicit weapon was reportedly discovered during a search of the bag.
Subsequently, the police took the individual into custody. The identity of the suspect has been withheld by authorities pending further investigation.
