Fatal Shooting of Alleged Armed Suspect by Law Enforcement Officers

Law enforcement officers fatally shot a suspected member of the Klansman gang who was armed with a gun during a confrontation in Ellerslie Pen, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Thursday morning, December 28, 2023.

The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Sunman McFarlane, also known as ‘Max,’ a laborer of Ellerslie Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

According to the Police, at approximately 9:00 a.m., personnel from the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Division, armed with a warrant, converged on Ellerslie Avenue in Spanish Town in search of McFarlane.

Upon breaching the front door of the premises McFarlane was located in, a woman approached the Police. Upon entering the house, they found McFarlane sitting on a bed and pointing a gun at them.

The officers took evasive action and opened fire at McFarlane. He fell, and the Police promptly retrieved the firearm.

The injured man was transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the authorities.

During a search of the premises, law enforcers recovered two additional firearms—one was concealed under a bed and the other under a mattress.

Meanwhile, the Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the incident.

Suspect Charged with Stabbing Death After Altercation in St. James

On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, police in St. James filed charges against a suspect in connection with the stabbing death of his uncle during a violent incident in Rose Heights on Boxing Day.

The victim was identified as 55-year-old Bently Vaughns, a mason from Rose Heights.

The suspect, 29-year-old Ricardo Rhomes, a chef from Rose Heights, was charged with murder.

According to a report from the Montego Bay police, an altercation took place around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, when Rhomes allegedly had a dispute with a woman. Vaughns intervened, leading to a physical confrontation between the two men.

During the altercation, Rhomes reportedly used a knife to stab Vaughns multiple times in the chest.

Vaughns was rushed to the hospital by the police but was tragically pronounced dead upon arrival.

Following an investigation, Rhomes was arrested and subsequently charged after a questioning session in the presence of his attorney. His court appearance is pending.

Suspect Charged with Murder and Wounding in Christiana Stabbing Incident.

In Christiana, Manchester, the police have laid charges against a suspect following the fatal stabbing of a man on December 23, 2023. The deceased, Stephan McLaughlin, known as ‘Rice Bag,’ aged 24, was the victim in this tragic incident.

Oshane Clarke, also known as ‘Boom Boom,’ aged 25, has been charged with murder and wounding with intent. Additionally, Clarke faces the charge of wounding with intent for injuring another man during the altercation.

According to the authorities, at approximately 1:00 a.m. on December 23, 2023, Clarke, McLaughlin, and another individual were involved in a physical altercation, during which Clarke allegedly used a knife to inflict multiple stab wounds on both men.

Following the incident, the injured men were promptly taken to the hospital by the police, where McLaughlin was pronounced dead, while the other man received medical treatment and was subsequently released.

Subsequently, Clarke was apprehended by law enforcement officers during an operation. Following interrogation, charges were brought against him, and his court date is pending.
