ROCKFORT, KINGSTON, Jamaica– Detectives assigned to the Kingston Eastern Police Division have charged a 19-year-old suspect with breaches of the Firearms Act and murder following a shooting incident that occurred on September 22, 2023.
The police identified the suspect as Jazeel Salmon, also known as ‘Javi,’ aged 19, of D’Aguilar Road, Rockfort, Kingston 2.
The police charged Salmon with the murder of Christopher Henry, also known as ‘Butu,’ of Barnes Road in Rockfort, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
According to reports, at about 9:50 a.m., residents reportedly heard explosions and summoned the police.
Upon their arrival, the police found Henry lying face down on the roadway in a pool of blood with gunshot wounds to the head.
The police transported Henry to the hospital, where the authorities pronounced him dead.
The police launched an investigation, which led them to arrest Salmon. The police charged him after an interview in the presence of his attorney.
His court date is pending.
Police seized two high-powered firearms in Salt Spring, St James.
SALT SPRING, ST JAMES, Jamaica— A joint operation between the St James Police and the Jamaica Defence Force led to the recovery of two high-powered firearms during a targeted operation on Salt Spring Road in St James on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
According to the authorities, at about 4:00 p.m., the joint forces, acting on intelligence conducted a targeted raid in Scott’s Yard, Salt Spring, St James.
During the operation, gunmen opened fire on the security forces. The law enforcement officers took evasive action and returned fire.
Once the shooting subsided, the officers swept and secured the area.
During the search, the law enforcement officers found one AK47 assault rifle, a Glock 19 pistol, and several assorted rounds of ammunition.
The police arrested one man in connection with the seizure and have launched a search to apprehend the other gunmen involved in the shooting.
The officers also urge individuals with any information that may assist in this investigation to come forward.
