According to reports, the Privy Council has fast-tracked its hearing for incarcerated dancehall artist Adidja ‘Vybz Kartel’ Palmer’s murder conviction appeal.

According to the STAR, Vybz Kartel’s lawyer, Isat Buchanan, has confirmed the development and indicated that the dates of February 14 and 15, 2024, are now circled on the registry.

Buchanan had requested an expedited hearing of Palmer’s appeal due to his ongoing health issues.

Earlier this year, a Fox News New York report indicated that Kartel’s Graves’ Disease and heart condition were worsening, and that if he did not get surgery soon, it could be fatal.

43% of Jamaican businesses feel crime is the most critical issue.

According to a new Don Anderson Business Confidence Survey commissioned by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce for the third quarter, 43% of local businesses feel crime is the most critical issue affecting Jamaica.

Six percent of the 100 businesses polled viewed unemployment as a significant issue, along with poverty.

Of the 43% of businesses most concerned about crime, pollster and head of Market Research Don Anderson said 50% felt crime and violence would remain the same in the next year.

Another 38% believed that crime will get worse.

When asked what are some of the things they believe the authorities should implement to curtail crime, Mr. Anderson said business leaders saw more significant effort by the Police as the number one solution to the crime problem. They also believed jobs for young people would help the situation.

Black River lockup escapee and girlfriend charged.

Police in St. Catherine slapped recaptured Black River lockup escapee Kenneth Omari Stewart with a new charge. The authorities also charged the woman with the escapee when they recaptured him.

Law enforcement officers charged Kenneth Omari Stewart, 32 years old, with uttering forged documents while his girlfriend, Dhenesia Bogle, was charged with harboring a fugitive.

Stewart escaped from the Black River lockup in St. Elizabeth in June 2023. The St. Catherine Police recaptured him in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, on October 19.

When the police accosted him, he reportedly showed the officers a birth certificate and other documents with a different name.

The police subsequently arrested him along with Bogle. Their court appearance date is October 31, 2023.

Judge granted Clarendon hit-and-run driver $1,000,000 bond.

5-year-old Demaris Davey-hit-and-run victim.

The hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of 5-year-old Demaris Davey was granted a $1,000,000 bond by a parish judge on Friday, October 20, 2023, when he appeared in the Lionel Town Parish Court.

The accused, William Bell, aged 33, a resident of Bunkers Hill in Frankfield, Clarendon, is due back in court on December 4, 2023. The police charged him with causing death by dangerous driving.

The police charged Bell after he surrendered to them on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. The 5-year-old boy and his mother were walking along the Bunkers Hill roadway when he was hit by the Toyota Probox motorcar Bell was driving. Bell fled the scene after the accident.

The child died at the hospital.
