On October 24, 2023, the body of a male, identified as Merrick Aries, was found in a decomposed state in the Salt River community in Clarendon, Jamaica.
The body had gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. It was discovered by residents in a bushy area at around 9:30 a.m.
The deceased was dressed in a white t-shirt, white underpants, blue jeans, and white sneakers, with his pants partially down and belt undone.
Next to the body, a grey Honda motor vehicle was found, which was later revealed to be a rental car.
Subsequent investigation revealed the car belongs to a car rental company with branches in Kingston, St Ann and St James. It was rented in St James last Saturday and was supposed to be returned on October 30, 2023.
The police suspect foul play and believe that Aries may have been lured to that location and robbed.
The Police are investigating.
A Judge found two cops guilty of assault
A Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court Judge on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, found two policemen guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court concerning an incident four years ago.
For sentencing, Constables Kenroy Chambers and Tevin Lake will return to Court on January 15, 2024.
Senior Parish Judge Paula Blake-Powell handed down the guilty verdict.
According to the Independent Commission of Investigations, the authorities charged the cops after they assaulted a man on Regent Street in Kingston on October 13, 2019.
Constables Chambers and Lake were summoned before the Court on February 9, 2021, following the findings of INDECOM’s investigation and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
