On Wednesday morning, October 11, 2023, Police in Portmore, St. Catherine, reported the death of two motorcyclists and the hospitalization of one person following a collision along Cumberland Boulevard in Portmore St Catherine.
The authorities named the deceased 20-year-old Ajauni Carnegie of Dreamland Drive, Old Braeton, and 22-year-old Kiran-Lee Stewart of Sandina Avenue, Caymanas Garden, both in St. Catherine.
The Police said at about 8:00 a.m., Carnegie, driving his MOV200 motorcycle along the roadway, attempted to overtake a line of traffic. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with Stewart’s motorcycle.
Hospital authorities pronounced the two men dead and admitted.
Police charged a 57-year-old taxi operator with the murder of his colleague.
On Monday, October 9, 2023, the Constant Police charged a St. Andrew taxi operator with the murder of fellow taxi operator Derrick Burke, age 67, on Red Hills Road on October 8, 2023.
The Police charged Ivan Bowen, o/c ‘McGuiver,’ age 57, of Molynes Road in St Andrew, with murder after he turned himself over to the Police.
According to the Police, at about 11:00 a.m., residents from the Red Hills Road community found Derrick Burke, otherwise called ‘Bird,’ of Molynes Road in St Andrew, dead in his car on Red Hills Road. They alerted the Police.
Upon arrival, the authorities found Burke slumped over the steering wheel of his car with stab wounds to the upper body.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital by the medical staff.
Bowen’s court date is pending.
Thugs killed a taxi operator and injured his mother in a Manchester gun attack.
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Tuesday night, October 10, 2023, law enforcement officers responded to Greenvale in Manchester, where thugs shot and killed a taxi operator, wounded his mother, and left four of his relatives, including three children, traumatized.
The authorities identified the deceased man as Gregory Sutherland, o/c ‘Greg,’ age 36, a late resident of Big Head Street, Greenvale, in Manchester.
According to reports, at about 7:00 p.m., Sutherland was driving his taxi with his relatives aboard along the Scott’s Town section of Greenvale to their home when two gunmen appeared from the bushes and opened fire at the vehicle’s tires-rendering it immobile.
Sutherland exited, and the gunmen opened fire on him, and he fell. The gunmen shot his mother in the chest and foot.
The other passengers escaped unharmed.
Law enforcement officers transported the injured persons to the hospital, where the authorities pronounced Sutherland dead and admitted his mother for treatment.
The authorities noted that the latest murder was the fourth in the parish since the beginning of October.
The Police did not establish a motive for the shooting.
