Police shot and injured a bike thief at Black River police station.

Early Saturday morning, October 7, 2023, a police officer attached to the Black River Police Station in St. Elizabeth shot and injured a suspect after he allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle from the Station’s compound.

Hospital authorities admitted the suspect under Police guard.

In a statement on Sunday, October 8, 2023, the Police said at about 3:40 a.m., a police officer conducted a routine patrol of the property and saw the suspect attempting to remove a motorcycle held as an exhibit.

The officer accosted the suspect, and a confrontation developed. The suspect tried to flee during the altercation, and the officer shot him.

Head of the St Elizabeth police division, acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, warned residents not to interfere with lockups, exhibits, or any other government property at police stations.

He noted that three persons have been arrested and charged for breaching lockups under his command.

Nurse killed in two-vehicle collision in Trelawny. 

TRELAWNY, Jamaica – Police in Trelawny reported that a woman lost her life on Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2023, when the vehicle she was driving collided with a truck along the Rio Bueno main road in Trelawny.

The authorities identified the woman as Ava-Daun Allen, a specialized nurse of a St. Ann address.

According to preliminary reports, at about 4:00 p.m., Allen was driving a Toyota Corolla motor car along the Rio Bueno main road when she reportedly lost control and collided with a refrigerated truck.

She succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Police charged a construction worker after allegedly shooting at man.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Gum Shoes in Hanover charged a Hanover man with several breaches of the Firearms Act following a shooting incident in Woodchurch District in Kingsvale, Hanover, on September 15, 2023.

The Police charged Calceito Smith, o/c ‘Devin,’ age 20, a construction worker from Woodchurch District, with shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony. 

The Police said at about 8 a.m. on September 15, 2023, a resident in the community heard an explosion while sitting at a shop and went to investigate. 

Smith pointed a gun at the complainant. He ran, and Smith reportedly chased him and fired several rounds at him.

The complainant escaped unharmed. He reported the incident to the Police.

The Police launched an investigation, which led them to arrest Smith. The authorities charged Smith on Saturday, October 7, 2023. His court date is pending.

Chinese businessman shot dead in Westmoreland robbery.

According to unconfirmed reports, robbers shot and killed a Chinese businessman, shooting and injuring one of his employees at his establishment in Water Works, Westmoreland, on Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2023.

The identity of the deceased is not yet known.

Crime scene investigators are currently at the scene of the deadly attack.

It was not clear if the attackers managed to escape with any cash.
