On Friday afternoon, October 6, 2023, law enforcement officers responded to a fatal shooting outside a medical complex in Portmore in St. Catherine, where gunmen shot and killed Gibbs Williams, Vice-Principal of GC Foster College of Physical Education in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The Police could not determine a motive for the shooting but have ruled out robbery. 

The authorities said the incident occurred just after midday. Williams had completed an appointment at a facility in the Portmore Hospital complex and was walking to his vehicle when the gunmen attacked him.

Witnesses reportedly heard loud explosions and saw Williams running back into the facility, where he collapsed.

The Police assisted Williams to the Spanish Town Hospital, where the authorities pronounced him dead.

Superintendent Christopher Phillips, head of the St Catherine South Police Division, said this about the shooting:

“We’ve ruled out robbery as a possible motive.” 

“We’re following strong leads into the murder. Senior investigators have started the process of looking into various sources of information,” Phillips added.

Williams was a national cricket team physical trainer, manager, and West Indies U-19 cricket team manager.

According to Nationwide at Five, a listener called into the program on Friday, October 6, 2023, and committed $100,000 to help Crab Circle whistleblower Nadine Francis.

Ms. Francis has complained that she has received multiple death threats since the video she recorded of a street food vendor at Crab Circle defecating in her stall went viral.

There has been an outpouring of support for Ms. Francis, with many on social media hailing her bravery. One Instagram user has branded her the ‘Heroine of Heroes Circle.’
