Gum Shoes in Portland awaits post-mortem examination results to determine the cause of death of an eight-year-old female child whose body was reportedly found with a plastic bag over her head at her home in Portland on Friday, September 22, 2023.
Authorities identified the deceased as Venice Burke of West Baptist Avenue in Portland.
According to reports, the child left school on Friday afternoon and went home, where she was in the care and supervision of a close family member.
At one point, the sitter noticed that the child was missing. So, they went to locate her.
The family member reportedly found the child with a plastic bag over her head, lying unresponsive in a pool of urine on the floor in a section of the house.
Hospital authorities pronounced the child dead on arrival.
The police are investigating.
