Denham Town residents mount protest after cops killed community Don.

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, residents from the Denham Town community in Kingston took to the streets following the fatal shooting of community Don, 34-year-old Nicholas Miller, by the police.

The demonstrators blocked off parts of Regent Street, North Street, Race Course Lane, and Milk Lane as a sign of disgust and anger. 

The demonstrators claimed the police killed their beloved community, Don, Nicholas Miller, in cold blood.

But the police said they shot and killed Miller during a confrontation as they chased armed suspects allegedly involved in a robbery Wednesday evening, September 7, 2023. 

Head of the Western Kingston Police Division Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps has confirmed that the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the incident. 

He encouraged residents to step forward and cooperate with INDECOM as they sought to gather information and establish the facts surrounding the incident.

Police charged a suspect with sexual assault and robbery of another man at a Kingston hotel.

Detectives from the Half Way Tree Police Station in St. Andrew charged a Clarendon man with sexual assault of another man at a hotel in Kingston in February 2023.

The police identified the suspect as Nicholas Lawrence, age 25, a vendor of Portland Cottage in Clarendon.

According to reports, Lawrence had arranged for the complainant to meet a person who resides overseas at the hotel.

On February 18, 2023, at about 11:00 p.m., the three men met at the hotel in the complainant’s room.

Once in the room, the suspect and the person who lives abroad brandished a pair of scissors and a knife, bound, gagged, and robbed the complainant of three cell phones and clothing items. Then they sexually assaulted him.

The complainant made a report to the police. The police launched an investigation. The police subsequently arrested Lawrence.

The police charged Lawrence with buggery, grievous sexual assault, and robbery with aggravation after the complainant pointed him out during an identification parade.

Lawrence’s court date is pending.

Two men got killed in a drive-by gun attack in downtown Kingston.

 KINGSTON, Jamaica— Thugs shot and killed two men in a drive-by attack on Pechon Street in downtown Kingston on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

The police identified the dead as Leroy O’Sullivan, age 52, a late resident of a Beckford Street address in downtown Kingston, and Leroy Diggs-White, age 45, from Cedar Valley Road, Kingston 6.

According to reporting, at about 5:45 p.m., on September 6, 2023, both men sat on a wooden stall on Pechon Street. Suddenly, a white Probox motor car pulled up, and armed men aboard opened fire, hitting both men.

The police transported the two injured men to the Kingston Public Hospital, where the authorities pronounced them dead on arrival. 

The police did not establish a motive for the killing.
