INDECOM investigates fatal shooting of suspected Hit Man in Old Harbor.

INDECOM is investigating the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man by an off-duty police officer in Old Harbor on Friday, August 18, 2023. 

The police identified the dead man as Shemar Clarke.

According to the police, on Friday, August 18, 2023, at about 3:00 pm, an off-duty member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force intervened when he observed a man shooting at occupants of a vehicle traveling along West Street in Old Harbor. 

A shootout between the off-duty cop and the gunman followed. Two people were reportedly shot and injured during the ordeal. Clarke was shot and killed by the policeman.

INDECOM noted in a release that part of the investigation will include determining the origin of the gunshots received by the injured people. Two vehicles got damaged during the exchange of gunfire.

According to reporting, one Glock 19 firearm with a serial number, and an extended magazine, were reported as seized following the incident.

Former MP Ronald Thwaites said ‘Illicit Six’ Should Make Full Public Disclosure.

Former Member of Parliament for Central Kingston, Ronald Thwaites, says the ‘Illicit Six’ members should fully disclose to the public.

In 2002, Mr. Thwaites resigned as MP after he became the subject of an investigation by the Auditor General’s Department.

Mr. Thwaites says the problematic ‘gag-clause’ provision in the Integrity Commission Act should be removed.
