ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Detectives from the St Andrew South Division arrested and charged a security guard after they recovered the pistol the suspect threw behind a wall as the police approached him while on patrol in the Phase 1 section of Seaview Gardens, St Andrew, on Friday, July 28, 2023.
The police charged Ricardo ‘Baba’ Byfield, age 25, a security guard of Phase 1, Seaview Gardens, St Andrew, with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
According to reports, on Friday, July 28, 2023, at about 5:50 pm, law enforcement offers were patrolling the Seaview Gardens community when they saw Byfield sitting on a wall.
Upon seeing the police, Byfield allegedly removed an object from his waist and threw it behind. The police accosted him and searched the area behind the wall.
During the search, they found one Browning 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing four 9mm cartridges.
The police arrested and charged Byfield. His court appearance date is pending.
Kingston Eastern Police charged the thug who chased his victim until he collapsed near a police station.
The Kingston Eastern police arrested and charged Romero ‘Dessie’ James, age 33, of Belvedere Road, Red Hills, St. Andrew, with breaches of the Firearms Act concerning a shooting incident that occurred on Friday, April 7, 2023, on Leaneral Street, Kingston 2.
Detectives from the Elletson Road Police Department stated that at about 9:20 pm, on the day in question, James and an accomplice allegedly walked up to a man on Leaneral and opened fire, hitting the man.
The complainant ran, and the gunmen chased him until he collapsed near a police station.
The police rushed him to the hospital, where the authorities admitted him for treatment.
The police arrested James, and the complainant pointed out during an identification parade on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
The police subsequently charged him with wounding with intent, unauthorized possession of prohibited weapons, and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
His court appearance date is pending.

The Kingston West Police recently arrested and charged three men with murder, Illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition stemming from the shooting death of a 30-year-old man on Saturday, March 20, 2021, along Anthony Road, Kingston 5.
The police identified the deceased as Rushane ‘Blackie’ Ashley, age 30, late resident of Anthony Road, Kingston. 5.
The indicted suspects are Jermaine Hamilton, o/c ‘Alex,’ age 20, of Rousseau Road, Kingston, and Kerron Pryce, o/c ‘Zeeks,’ age 30, a higgler, of Magazine Lane, Bog Walk, St Catherine, and Damion Walker, o/c ‘Shines,’ age 26, a bus conductor, of Lincoln Way, Heartsease, St Thomas.
According to the Denham Town Police, at about 7:00 pm, on March 2021, Ashley was among a group of people standing at his gate when a motorcar pulled up with the three accused. The armed men opened fire, killing Ashley on the spot before escaping.
The police said Hamilton and Pryce have been in custody on other charges. But the police arrested Walker recently after he reported on his bail condition at the Yallahs Police Station. The police charged him on Thursday, July 27, 2023, following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
