According to reporting, United States law enforcement in Florence, South Carolina, reported on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, that they arrested Ewart Everton Brown o/c ‘Mad Cobra,’ age 55, veteran Dancehall artiste of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after deputies pulled him over for a traffic stop and found two kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Department issued a release confirming the arrest, saying deputies arrested the Dancehall artist after they initiated a traffic stop on his Black BMW SUV for speeding.
According to the release, once deputies stopped Brown, they had “reasonable suspicion” of criminal activity. So, they asked Brown for consent to search his vehicle. During the search, the deputies discovered two kilograms of cocaine and a 9mm Beretta pistol.
Cobra now faces charges of trafficking cocaine and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.
The authorities take hold of Cobra and place him in the Florence County Detention Center as he awaits a bond hearing.
Mad Cobra was a household name in Jamaica and the diaspora in the 1990s. He had hits like ‘Press Trigger,’ ‘Defend It,’ and ‘Flex’ which American singer Janelle Monae sampled in her latest single, ‘Lipstick Lover.’
Duhaney Park police launched probe after cop fatally shoots spouse’s ex-lover.
The Duhaney Park police and INDECOM are probing the shooting death of a man during a domestic dispute at a house occupied by his ex-girlfriend and her common-law spouse, a policeman.
The police identified the deceased as Stephon Dacin Lee Powell, age 29, a taxi of a Vineyard Town, and Brook Avenue, Kingston 20 address.
The shooting occurred during a reported domestic dispute on Monday, July 24, 2023, at about 9:00 am, at a house on Coleyville Avenue in Kingston 20.
According to reports, the policeman shot Powell multiple times after allegedly gaining entry to the House through a window and proceeded to attack his ex-girlfriend with a ratchet knife.
Further reporting suggested the policeman fired his weapon nine times toward Powell.
Concerned citizens summoned the police. Upon arrival, the police found Powell lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom.

On Monday, July 24, 2023, the Area Two Police launched a manhunt for two armed thugs who allegedly opened fire on a motor vehicle transporting a British national and other passengers in St. Mary.
The Jamaican born-British national and her friends escaped unhurt.
According to media reporting, at about 1:00 am, Monday, July 24, 2023, the woman and her friends were driving along the Three Hill Main Road in Retreat, St. Mary, when two men traveling on a motorcycle overtook them and pretended that they were in an accident ahead.
The complainant slowed to render assistance, and one of the men pulled a firearm.
Upon seeing the firearm, the woman sped away from the scene, and the gunman fired several shots damaging the vehicle.
St Catherine police charged three men for Lottery Scamming.
Gum Shoes assigned to the St. Catherine South Police Division have charged three people with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) Special Provisions Act, popularly known as the Lottery Scam Act.
The three were among 11 people – ten males and one female the police arrested on Monday, July 17, during an operation at premises in the Phoenix Village Housing Scheme in Portmore, St. Catherine.
The police identified the three accused as Noel Romeo, age 21, a farmer and rafter of Hague Housing Scheme, Trelawny; Rivaldo ‘Raheem’ Cousins, age 20, music producer of Rio Nuevo, St Ann, and Javel Watson, age 22, a bearer of St Jago Grove, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Superintendent Hopeton Nicholson, Acting commanding Officer for the St. Catherine South Police Division, confirmed that the police released the other eight individuals pending further investigations.
