On Sunday, July 16, 2023, residents of the Gordon Pen community in Spanish Town, St Catherine, mounted roadblocks after police shot and killed two men in an alleged confrontation.
The police said they seized two illegal guns following the gun battle.
According to reports, on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at about 7:00 am, a team of law enforcement officers conducted a special operation in the Kennedy Lane, o/c ‘Monkey Town’ community.
During the operation, the police came under heavy gunfire when they entered a particular yard. The police took evasive action and returned the fire.
When all was said and done, the police found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
The police rushed the men to the hospital, where the authorities pronounced them dead.
As news of the incident spread, residents mounted roadblocks to protest the police’s action.
The security forces have beefed up their presence in the community.
IDECOM has launched a probe into the incident.
Spanish Town detectives arrested three men concerning a firearm seizure in Lakes Pen.
The St Catherine police arrested three men on Saturday, July 15, 2023, concerning the seizure of a firearm and ammunition during a snap raid in Lakes Pen, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The Spanish Town police said on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at about 1:30 pm, a police team acted on intelligence and carried out a targeted search at a premises in the Lakes Pen Community.
During the search, the police found one Tang Folio 9mm pistol with several assorted rounds of ammunition at the back of the premises.
The cops took three men present at the premises into custody. However, the police withhold the identities of the men pending further investigation.
St Catherine man on gun charge following M16 rifle seizure.
The police charged a St Catherine auto body repairman with breaches of the Firearms Act concerning the alleged seizure of an M16 rifle at his home on July 9, 2023.
The police identified the accused as Rayvian Howell, age 32, an autobody repair technician from Johnson Pen, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The police charged Howell with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition following an operation at his home on July 9.
The police said on July 9, 2023, at about 5:15 am, they conducted a joint police/military operation in Johnson Pen and searched premises occupied by Howell.
During the search, the police seized one M16 rifle fitted with a magazine containing five cartridges inside the premises.
Howell’s court appearance date is July 21, 2023.
An Unknown assailant stabbed a man to death in Ocho Rios.
ST ANN, Jamaica – The St Ann police reported that an unknown assailant stabbed and killed a man in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Sunday morning, July 16, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as Omar Walker.
According to the police report, at about 10:40 am, Walker and another man were involved in a dispute l near the Jamaica National Bank. And the other man used a knife and stabbed Walker multiple times before he escaped on foot.
A concerned citizen summoned the police to the scene. And the police transported Walker to the hospital, where he died.
The police did not give a motive for the stabbing.
Walker’s death followed Saturday’s double murder in Priory, St Ann when two men were shot and killed.
The police are investigating both incidents.
