The Minister says he drove through the red light after he detected that it might have been malfunctioning.

According to Minister Vaz, months ago, he stopped at a traffic light that was
changing from red to green to yellow in a short time.

The Minister says having realized the malfunction and checked to ensure the roadway was clear, he proceeded through the light.

Minister Vaz also reported the matter to the Head of the Traffic Management Division, who confirmed that the particular light was defective and the appropriate department would have it fixed in short order.

The Minister says the issue happened many months ago and has only become an issue since his appointment to the Transport portfolio.
