KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament for South East Clarendon, and Minister of Labour and Social Security, Pearnel Charles Jr, thinks the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) and its policies represent the best hope for Jamaica.
In a media release on Monday, June 26, 2023, Charles Jr, who spoke at his constituency conference at the Vere Technical High School in Clarendon on Sunday, June 25, 2023, proclaimed that Jamaica has benefitted under the Andrew Holness-led Government. He noted that the minimum wage has almost doubled, meaningful increases in pension and PATH benefits.
According to Minister Charles:
“No other party has done what this government has done for the most vulnerable in our society. Our Prime Minister and the JLP government have increased the minimum wage two times in one year,” Charles Jr said.

“Your prime Minister, your leader, has allowed us to increase the minimum wage and pension so the elderly people in our country can feel valued. On top of increasing the minimum wage and pension, we increased PATH benefits,” Charles Jr said.

“Let me tell you something, Labourites. You must know why you are a Labourite. It’s not just because you love the labor party; it’s because you love Jamaica, and the best thing for Jamaica right now and in the future is the Jamaica Labour Party,” he added.

Charles said he was confident the people of Clarendon South East would be ready to return him to Parliament when the next election comes. He emphasized that the JLP brought Jamaica through a pandemic, and the economy is recovering stronger than before.
Mr. Charles ended his speech with the following:
“You understand that that is only happening because of good leadership? It doesn’t happen by chance. It is not about tic tac toe. It’s solid, sensible, deliberate, calculated decisions made by your leaders to secure your future, and that is why under Andrew Holness, we can say that Jamaica is now in its strongest economic state. I don’t want you to take it lightly,” he said, adding, “I am proud to be a Laborite.”
