An American tourist died in Montego Bay Club Hotel room

An American female tourist died inside a hotel room in Montego Bay, St James, on Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023. 

The police identified the dead woman as Quintaria Roker, age 24, of West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.

According to a police release, the woman arrived on the Island on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, and connected with a male friend she met on social media.

The couple then went to the Montego Bay Club Hotel, where they booked a room on the 10th floor. They partied for several hours Tuesday night into the wee hours Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023. 

The police stated that on Wednesday morning, June 21, 2023, at about 10:00 am, the male friend discovered that Roker had not gotten up from bed. So, he went to check on her. But he found her unresponsive and not moving. He then raised the alarm.

Hotel staff rushed Roker to the hospital, where authorities pronounced her dead.

The police did not suspect foul play, but an investigation is ongoing.

Police charged brothers implicated in a schoolboy stabbing.

The Portmore police confirmed that they had charged the two brothers involved in the recent stabbing of a male student from Cumberland High School in Portmore, St Catherine.

According to the police, they charged a 14-year-old Cumberland student and his 19-year-old brother with wounding with intent, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and conspiracy.

The siblings had surrendered to the police a day after the June 15, 2023 attack.

The police said two other suspects in the case are at large.

The victim, an 11th-grade student, got attacked by a group of four men who chopped and stabbed him several times.

According to reports, the student who reportedly intervened in a dispute between two students was later set upon by men from a neighboring community who were summoned to the scene by one of the students involved in the conflict.

The court date for the accused is pending.
