On Friday afternoon, June 9, 2023, a lone gunman who pretended to be a passenger held a taxi operator at gunpoint and robbed them.

According to preliminary reports, at about 12:40 pm, the taxi operator picked up a passenger in the Papine area.

On reaching Hope Boulevard, the passenger pulled a gun and demanded money.

The Taxi operator unwisely resisted. And a struggle developed during which the robber shot the taxi operator in the leg and escaped.

A good samaritan assisted the taxi operator to the hospital for treatment.

CTOC seized high-powered weapons, ballistic vests, and ammo in Jaques Road, Mountain View operation

During a targeted operation along Jaques Road, Mountain View, St Andrew, law enforcement officers seized two high-powered rifles, three ballistic vests, and ammo on Friday morning, June 9, 2023.

At about 8:30 am, Friday morning, June 9, 2023, detectives assigned to CTOC conducted a targeted search at a house in the Jaques Road community in Mountain View, St Andrew. And during the search, the police found two illegal weapons, three ballistic vests, 28 5.56 MM cartridges, 42 MM cartridges, and 7.26 cartridges.

The police took one man in custody concerning the seizure.

St Ann detectives arrested a caregiver concerning the murder of Kenneth Downer.

The St Ann police arrested the caregiver present when a lone thug shot and killed retired Public Health Inspector and Justice of the Peace Kenneth Downer earlier this month.

According to reports, the caregiver was a close friend of the deceased family. Gum Shoes investigating the murder, arrested her on Thursday, June 8, 2023. 

The officer in charge of the St Ann police division, Dwight Powell, confirmed the caregiver’s arrest.

The police arrested the main suspect on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in St Ann’s Bay.

A robber shot and killed Downer on June 1, 2023, during an attempted robbery at his home in Huntley district in Brown’s Town.
