On Monday morning, May 22, 2023, an unknown assailant gunned down a business owner at his St Andrew business establishment.

The police identified the deceased as 62-year-old Amson Segree, principal stakeholder of Discount Business Supplies located on Shortwood Road in St Andrew.
According to a news report, at about 9:46 am, Segree was at his business place when a lone man descended from a white Honda Fit motor car and entered the establishment. The man pulled a firearm and opened gunfire at Segree, hitting him in the upper body.
The shooter then escaped in the waiting motor car. An eyewitness alerted the police. And a team of law enforcement officers from the Grants Pen Police Station rushed Segree to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where he died.
One woman protested against the salary hike for the political class.
Nastassia says she thought it necessary to take to the street and add her voice to the growing calls for a rollback of the massive salary increases given to members of the political directorate.
On Monday, May 22, 2023, a lone Jamaican woman named Nastassia staged a one-woman demonstration in protest against the massive pay hike for politicians in front of the Ministry of Finance in Kingston. Four other women would join Nastassia later on.
Nastassia, a concerned citizen, said it was paramount to take to the streets to add her voice to the rallying cry calling for a rollback of the salaries given to members of the political directorate.
Several public sector groups, members of the clergy, and members of the public have registered their disapproval of the exorbitant pay hike.
The substantial salary increases for politicians were announced in Parliament on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, by Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke. In some instances, the political class salaries have hiked by more than 200 percent.
