Manchester gumshoes working to uncover suspects in strings of break-ins and rapes.

The Manchester police said they had launched an investigation to expose the identity of the person or persons responsible for the string of break-ins and two reported cases of rape in the Dunrobin and Balvenie communities.

The police said residents of both communities have been fearful since the incidents.

According to the Operations Officer for the parish, Deputy Superintendent David Blake, the police have met with concerned residents of both communities to reassure them that the police will heighten their visibility in the communities.

“The investigations are in their early stages, and we are collecting evidence, forensic evidence, seeking to identify a suspect. But as it stands now, the immediate response of the police is to insert more patrol into the space, both marked police units and unmarked police units,” he said.

The DSP added that the police recently launched a Quick Response unit in the parish, which will help ensure they can respond quickly to calls for service.

He also said there are talks ongoing with the Manchester chapter of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica regarding the revival of inactive neighborhood watches and citizen associations.

“We are finding that in some of these communities, neighbors don’t know neighbors and these kinds of things, so as police officers, we want to go in and initiate a process where neighbors look out for each other,” DSP Blake explained.
