Vendor charged with robbery after going to the hospital with a gunshot injury.


ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— The Santa Cruz police reported that they have arrested and charged a Manchester jerk chicken vendor with a robbery committed in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, after he showed up at a hospital with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

The police identified the accused as 33-year-old Shawn Reid, o/c ‘Romaine’ of Newport District in Manchester.

The police charged Reid with robbery with aggravation, possessing an illegal firearm, and using an illegal gun to commit an offense.

According to the Santa Cruz Police, at about 7:55 am, April 6, 2023, Reid and three accomplices held up and robbed a man of his licensed firearm. They then attempted to rob a supermarket. They made their demands, and Reid hit the complainant multiple times in his face when they were not met.

Later that day, Reid arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. The hospital notified the cops, and upon their arrival, the police discovered that Reid had accidentally shot himself. He was treated and released under police guard.

On Thursday, April 27, 2023, the complainant positively identified Reid on an identification parade.

His court date is pending.

Two Teenage boys charged with rape of female classmate at Clarendon school.

CLARENDON, Jamaica— On March 27, 2023, the Clarendon police reported that they had arrested and charged two 17-year-old boys after they allegedly sexually assaulted a classmate at a school in Clarendon.

The police charged the boys with rape, malicious destruction of property, aiding and abetting rape, and aiding and abetting malicious destruction of property.

According to the police, at about 2:45 pm, March 27, 2023, the complainant was sitting in her classroom with the two boys when one closed the door and stood guard to ensure nobody else entered while the other held down and sexually assaulted her.

The police arrested and charged both boys after a question-and-answer session.

Their court date is pending.
