Meadowbrook Preparatory School in St Andrew was the scene of a fatal shooting on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Unknown assailants shot a man several times, seconds after he picked up a child.
According to reports, just as the St Andrew-based school dismissed for the day, parents were collecting their children, and suddenly loud explosions could be heard-
sending terrified students, parents, and staff scampering for cover.
A man sitting on a motorcycle waiting to pick up a child was shot several times before his attackers escaped in a motorcar.
According to reports, no other persons got injured.
The police responded to the shooting and assisted the injured man to the hospital.
One parent who spoke to the media said the following:
“I have never experienced anything like this. Of course, I always heard it on the news, but I must imagine how frightened these students and parents are. I was seated in my car and I’m still shaken. Eyewitness to the shooting
One neighbor lamented that the community is always quiet and peaceful and not accustomed to seeing these acts of violence.
“I mean, around the area and nearby communities, you have sporadic incidents. Not right here at the school gate. It could have been inside the school because the man went there to pick up a student. A child or children could have been shot or died. Don’t tell me the police have to start [getting posted] at school for this reason,” the Meadowbrook resident said.
