The police in St James have slapped a 17-year-old boy with several gun-related charges and burglary following a midnight attack on a man at his Canaan residence.
According to detectives, on March 23, 2023, they charged the teen with burglary, shooting with intent, possession of a firearm with intent to injure or cause damage, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition after a question and answer session in the presence of his attorney.
The police have withheld the accused name because he is a minor. However, they have scheduled the accused to appear before the St James family court on March 30, 2023.
According to the police report, at about 12:10 am, on Sunday, March 5, 2023, the complainant was at home sleeping when awoken by a loud sound from his front door.
The police said the man got up and went to make checks. And during the checks, he saw the teen holding a rifle. The teen allegedly fired the gun several times through the window. Then he entered the house.
Upon seeing the complainant, the teen allegedly fired several shots in his direction.
The complainant, who allegedly was armed with a machete, chopped the teen several times before the teen escaped into nearby bushes. The complainant and his family did not receive any injuries.
The complainant reported the incident to the police. The police launched an investigation, and they later arrested the teen.
