Brazen daylight drive-by at bus stop scared commuters, including children.

Commuters, including several schoolchildren, stood at the PriceRite bus stop along Chancery Street in St Andrew Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023, and had to scamper for cover when thugs on a motorcycle started firing indiscriminately at their target.

A man the police theorized was the intended target got shot several times in the upper body, while another man who was a passerby got shot in one of his shoulders.

The victims, ages 24 and 47, were rushed to the hospital, where one was in critical condition. According to a police source, the incident took place around 7:30 am.

And according to the commanding officer of the St Andrew North Police Division Sherika Service, the shooters were the subject of another incident.

“The shooters escaped on a motorbike but were later involved in a crash in the Queensborough area. I believe they ran away, leaving the bike, which is now in our custody,” Service said.

Superintendent Service condemned the shooting and highlighted the fearless nature in which criminals are operating.

“Unlike the police, thugs are not governed by any laws or rules of engagement, and they have various high-powered weapons. So I would say that they are more armed and dangerous,” Service said.

“For instance, if you look at this morning’s (Tuesday) shooting incident, if a target is on the public road, whether night or day and they want you, they are coming for you. A lot of persons were at Chancery Street but the shooting still occurred.”

Tuesday’s fatal shooting followed a spate of gun-related crimes resulting in the death of at least five people within a month in the St Andrew North Division. Service pointed out that citizens are getting restless. But the JCF would like to reassure them that the police will allow criminals act with impunity.
