Government grant license to import Canadian cannabis, Minister tripped over his lies.

Time after time, the Jamaican Government lied to the Jamaican people. It continues to enter into secretive questionable agreements, and when information gets leaked to the public, it makes up answers that do not make sense.

Jamaica's Commerce Minister Aubyn Hill.

For example, recently, word got out that the Jamaican Government granted a license to a local legal cannabis entity to import cannabis from Canada. As a result, the people, including the Opposition, were outraged and exercised, as they could not imagine any reasonable scenario that warranted the Government importing cannabis into Jamaica. Because everybody knows Jamaica grows the best cannabis in the world, and we grow it abundantly.

So, on Thursday, March 3, 2023, the Minister with responsibility for Commerce strutted over to a radio station (Nationwide@5) that is friendly to the Government to explain things. My grandmother used to say:

“If you have to explain your action after the fact, you are up to no good.”

While going through his jumbled talking points, Minister Aubyn appeared to reveal why the Government approved the license to import Canadian cannabis:

“The local importer is seeking to test the viability of these Canadian cannabis strains in Jamaica.”

But less than twenty-four hours later, the Minister was singing a different tune to wit:

“The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) has permitted a company with majority Jamaican ownership to import 140 kilograms of cannabis (308.647 pounds) for research purposes.”

Local cannabis industry interests have asked the Government and the CLA to confirm the details of the license agreement. But so far, neither party has responded.
