The police reported that two robbers made good their escape with approximately J$10 million after carrying out a daring mid-morning robbery at an ATM in Portmore on Monday, February 2023, where they shot and killed one security guard and two others injured.

According to preliminary reports, the security guards who Beryllium Limited employs were about to make a money drop at a Jamaica National automated teller machine (ATM) in the Portmore Pines Plaza, St Catherine, when a white Subaru motor car pulled up. And two men armed with high-powered weapons alighted from the vehicle and opened fire at the guards as they walked toward the ATM. As a result, the guards received multiple gunshot wounds.
The assailants then grabbed the two bags containing money from the guards and escaped.
One of the guards, a male, was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the female guard underwent emergency surgery to repair gunshot wounds to both legs and her upper body. She is said to be in serious but stable condition.
The other male guard was treated and released.
Police say the guards had no chance because the shooters fired at them from behind.
In the meantime, the Senior Superintendent of Police in charge of the St Catherine South police division, Christopher Phillips, calls security companies to review their courier operations after today’s fatal shooting and robbery in St Catherine.
