Two vehicle collisions claimed one life and injured four persons along the Stewart Town Main Road in St Mary Monday morning, February 27, 2023.

The police identified the deceased as 29-year-old Sydney Condapper of a Highgate address in the parish.

The four persons, who were seriously injured, were taken to the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital. 

The collision happened at about 7:00 am.

It involved a taxi with passengers aboard and a Toyota Hiace bus.

The collision caused the taxi to run off the road and crash into a ditch.

First responders had to cut the injured persons from the damaged vehicle.

One security officer is dead, and another is nursing gunshot wounds in the hospital.

WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— One security officer is dead, and another is nursing gunshot wounds in hospital after the police shot them in Negril, Westmoreland, on Sunday night, February 26, 2023.

The deceased was identified as Dellon Harding, 25, of Seaton Crescent, in Savanna-la-Mar. According to reports, both guards were on duty at the Sunshine Plaza in Negril when police shot them.

The police preliminary report stated that at about 5 a.m., a police team reportedly responded to reports of a robbery near Sunshine Village Complex in Negril, where they encountered the two guards allegedly sitting in a car. It is unclear what transpired between the police and the men, but Harding and his colleague got shot.

Harding got shot in the head and his colleague in the face.

An in-depth investigation is underway.

A 43-year-old man gunned down on Strand, Montego Bay, St James

In Montego Bay–A lone gunman shot and killed 43-year-old Duane Harcourt Russell of Bamboo district, Hanover. 

Preliminary reports indicated that on Sunday, February 26, 2023, at about 2:00 pm, Russell was walking along Strand Street when a lone assailant allegedly ran up behind him and shot him in the head. He died on the spot.

According to the Gleaner, Russell’s death shook his home community, where his family and other residents said he was well-loved and respected.

“This news is heartbreaking for the community. His family is well-known and respected in the community, and he and his brothers are all decent law-abiding citizens,” a resident told The Gleaner. “The community has lost a fine young man with a bright future.”

Since the start of this year, St James has recorded 24 murders, which matches the same period in 2018, the lowest in over a decade.
