A man who shot at the police last month has been charged.

A man allegedly shot at the police last month at a checkpoint in Rockfort, Kingston, has been slapped with several charges.

He is Nigel Wray, 33, a technician. The police charged Wray on Thursday, February 23, 2023, with Assault at common law, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorized possession of ammunition. The police have not finalized a court date. 

According to the police, on Thursday, January 28, 2023, at about 1:50 am, law enforcement officers were on patrol in Rockfort when they spotted a grey Subaru motor car parked along the roadway with Wray inside.

The police instructed Wray to exit the vehicle, and while exiting the car, he opened fire at the police and ran. The police returned the fire, and Wray was hit. The police assisted him to the hospital, where he was admitted. The police seized a 9mm pistol.

The St Elizabeth police are investigating a case where an ex-policeman was found outside his gate suffering from stab wounds on Friday, February 24, 2023.

The ex-policeman, identified as an ex-corporal, was found lying outside his gate with several stab wounds at about 2:00 am on Friday, February 24, 2023, after residents summoned the law enforcement officers to the scene. 

The police took him to the hospital, where he was admitted and underwent surgery. 

He was conscious when the police found him, but he could not give much information.

The investigation continues.
