ST JAMES, Jamaica. More carnage on our roads. Part of the expressed benefits of the New Road Traffic Act is to improve road safety and road decline. But so far, it’s business as usual. And the only entity benefiting from the new law is the Government-collecting millions in citations.
So, despite the new road traffic law, the carnage on our roadways continues. Wednesday night, February 22, 2023, two motor vehicles collided on the Rose Hall Main Road. And a man who was injured in the accident succumbed to his injuries.
The collision, meters from the Spot Valley intersection, involved a Nissan Wingroad and a Toyota Corolla. The deceased man was traveling in the Toyota, which caught fire seconds after the impact.
According to persons who witnessed the crash, the man was bleeding on the road. And a good samaritan at the scene took him to the hospital, where, according to reports, he later died from his injuries.
A man and woman in the Nissan traveling in the Nissan were taken to the hospital with multiple injuries. Their status was known. But, according to early reports, they were allegedly thrown from the Nissan into a nearby. The woman was subsequently pulled from the ditch and taken to the hospital. It is unsure how the man got to the hospital.
