St. Elizabeth Fisherman gets 12 years for cocaine possession.
A judge sentenced a St Elizabeth fisherman to 12 years in prison for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
He is forty-two-year-old Daniel Hanson, whom the police charged with possessing cocaine, dealing in, and importing cocaine. The charges stem from a drug seizure along the coast of Black River by law enforcement officers last November 2022.
During a joint law enforcement operation along the Black River coast, the JDF Coast Guard intercepted Hanson’s fishing boat. And investigators found cocaine with an estimated US $40 million in his possession.

Hanson was subsequently arrested and charged.
Hanson pleaded guilty to the charges, and the judge gave him a cumulative custodial sentence of 12 years last Friday.
Some of Hanson’s sentences will run consecutively.
Holness-Administration Seeks Balance in Child Seat Provision for PPVs
Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, Floyd Green, assured concerned members of the public that the National Road Safety Council, NRSC, have noted their concerns. And it will make recommendations to the Cabinet on balancing the enforcement of a child restraint system in public passenger vehicles which the new Road Traffic Act stipulates.
PM Holness gave Green oversight responsibility for the council.
The government says it will amend the New Road Traffic Act regulations, which require motor vehicles outfitted with a car restraint system to transport children under 12.
Under the Act, non-compliant motorists will get a fine of $5,000. But affected citizens contended that that particular section of the law is unduly burdensome.
