Ever since the SSL story leaked to the media, the stories and statements have kept changing by the day. But there are two things in this debacle that I find strange. First, SSL said the company has become aware of fraudulent activity by a former employee.
But we know the employee that the SSL reference was still employed. Second, the other thirty clients have yet to say anything about their missing money. Also, according to the lawyer representing Bolt, as of October last year, Bolt had US$12.7 million in his account. And that’s one hundred percent more than what they told us initially.
In addition, the company has yet to make itself available to the press. And Jamaica’s Finance Minister took one week to address the issue.
So when I consider everything, I cannot help but wonder whether SSL was laundering money. And I have to put the spotlight on Bolt because his account with SSL is not an investment account. Instead, the money was sitting in an earned interest account.
Therefore, it is fair to ask where Bolt got so much money in 2012. He was only twenty-five years old. And he is not a basketball player, a football player, a soccer player, or a Baseball player. Often star players in the sports named above signed massive contracts with hefty upfront bonuses. He won his first Olympic gold medal in 2008 and second in 2012. Is it possible that the Olympian earned all that money from endorsement and prize money? Did he declare the funds and pay the required amount of tax? Also, how could he deposit millions of dollars in a government-regulated bank without scrutiny?
There are a lot of questions that need answers. But I wonder if we will ever get to the truth. Still, there is one certainty, the whole thing stinks.

Every day we get more questions and no answers. Time will tell if SSL and its thieves will become another Jamaican nine day wonder
Jamaica has a TRUST problem. The leaders are not Trustworthy. It took Finance Minister Clarke approximately two weeks to address the situation. And he was followed by the PM’s a day later. And as usual, all we get is talk.
