Nobody is perfect. But the people we choose to oversee our affairs should be beyond reproach. If a member of the Legislature is going around physically abusing women as George Wright did, how can he be trusted to write effective laws to curve domestic violence? No sane, reasonable person would opt to use a fox to guard a chicken coop. So then, citizens should not allow a man who breaks the law with impunity to turn around and write rules he expects the citizenry to obey.
Dr Tufton is confusing the issue. The Jamaican people pardoned George Wright many moons ago, but they don’t want to see him hanging around the chicken coop.

And the last thing the Jamaican people want to hear is
Dr Tufton lectured them on whether they had the standing to cast stones at George Wright, who was caught on video punching a woman multiple times as if she were a punching bag in a boxing Jim. The incident happened on April 6, 2021.
In his address to the Jamaica Labour Party parish conference on Sunday, Dr Tufton attempted to trivialize Wright’s behaviour, telling Jamaicans that they have no place passing judgment on Wright.
Here is how Dr Tufton framed his frame is the argument:
“George had an alleged unfortunate incident, which, based on the allegations, we must never condone and we must discourage, but I put it to you today, if George Wright has made peace with his God and those he has transgressed against, who are we to judge George Wright?”
“… If George Wright’s spiritual leader goes in the public square and says George Wright has made peace with God for his transgressions, who are we to judge George Wright? We live in a predominantly Christian country, and the basic tenets of Christianity are about forgiveness, love, empathy … . Those who have no sin, cast the first stone, and none of us can cast the stone, which is why we must forgive,” he added.
