Jamaica Honored Lord Creator For His Contribution To Music And Community Development

The Jamaican government has honored one of Ska’s greats, Lord Creator. The Trinidadian-born veteran musician Kenrick Patrick was bestowed with the Order of Distinction in the rank of an officer for his contribution to Jamaican music and community service development. The occasion was the National Honors, and Awards Ceremony held on Heroes’ Day, and he could not be happier. The Governor General of Jamaica presided over the ceremony.

It has been six decades since he wrote and recorded the hit song, Independent Jamaica. One of the songs that marked the historic occasion of Jamaica gaining its Independence from the British colonial empire.

Sitting in a wheelchair with his wife by his side, the honorable Lord Creator, Ska legend, described his delight for the award to the Gleaner: “This is a great feeling,” he told The Sunday Gleaner. “I’ve always felt great things in Jamaica because even before I came to Jamaica, I was involved in the music industry but never played an instrument. When I came here, I was motivated to play the guitar, but my hands and fingers used to hurt, [so] I put it down.”

Aside from Independent Jamaica, Lord Creator made several other hits: Don’t Stay Out Late, Big Bamboo, Little Princess, Jamaica Farewell, and Kingston Town.
