In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Green said the president is out of touch with voters on key issues such as affordability.
Greene told Kaitlan that the “dam is breaking” regarding Trump’s hold on support within the party, and she expects Republicans to struggle in next year’s midterm elections.
To support her argument, she cited several instances. First was the backlash to Trump’s comments on the death of director Rob Reiner. She also mentioned the 13 House Republicans who voted with Democrats to overturn Trump’s executive order on collective bargaining. Additionally, she noted Indiana Republicans’ rejection of the president’s redistricting push. Greene said she expected pushback within the party to grow as lawmakers enter the campaign phase for the upcoming elections.
Further, Greene stated, “I think the midterms are going to be very hard for Republicans,” Greene said. “I’m one of the people who’s willing to admit the truth and say I don’t see Republicans winning the midterms right now.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene rode the wave of Donald Trump’s popularity to win her first congressional election in November 2020. She represents Georgia’s 14th congressional district. She was officially sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives on January 3, 2021.
Green is best known for her far-right political views, business background, and promotion of conspiracy theories. She has been a staunch supporter of Donald Trump. But in recent months, she has morphed into one of the president’s critics.
