INDECOM used CCTV evidence to build an assault and False declaration against a cop
Cop faces Assault and False Declaration Charges in Jamaica. On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, law enforcement officials in Jamaica indicted one of their colleagues. He is Constable Kemar Devonish. The charges related to the alleged assault of the complainant in 2020 along Wildman Street in Kingston, Jamaica.
Additionally, the authorities charged the cop with making a false declaration to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
According to the allegations, on July 15, 2020, Constable Devonish and another officer allegedly used excessive force. They restrained the complainant during an encounter.
The complainant reported the matter to INDECOM. INDECOM investigated the case. Then, referred its findings to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
As a result, the DPP decided that authorities should charge the cop with assault causing actual bodily harm. Plus, making a false declaration in violation of section 33(a) of the Independent Commission of Investigations Act.
INDECOM said CCTV footage played a critical role in helping them uncover the cop’s alleged breach of the Law.
Devonish appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. His next court date is July 29, 2025.
St. Andrew police arrested a suspect and seized a firearm during an operation
On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, cops from the St. Andrew Central Division arrested a suspect after seizing a firearm and several rounds of ammunition.
According to a report from the Halfway Tree Police, at about 10:10 a.m., police officers conducted a targeted operation along Tarrant Drive.
During the operation, the cops stopped and searched a suspect. They allegedly found a 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine in his possession. The police said the pistol’s magazine contained 13 live cartridges.
As a result, the cops arrested the suspect and placed him in custody.
Nevertheless, law enforcement withheld the suspect’s identity while they completed further investigations.
