Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Drive is the inspiring new name for Ashoka Road in Waterhouse, St. Andrew Jamaica, following a unanimous decision by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) to honor this remarkable athlete.
During the vibrant council meeting on Tuesday, October 8, held at the historic Marcus Garvey Council Chamber, Byron Clarke, councilor for the Waterhouse division, passionately moved the resolution. This unanimous decision by the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) is a testament to the unity and collaboration in our community.
This renaming is a heartfelt tribute to Fraser-Pryce’s extraordinary achievements in track and field and her unwavering commitment to uplifting the Waterhouse community and Jamaica as a whole.
Born and raised on Ashoka Road, the 10-time World Champion has brought home eight impressive Olympic medals. She has the record as the only sprinter, male or female, to win five world titles in the 100-meter event. She did it in (2009, 2013, 2015, 2019, and 2022).
Councilor Clarke celebrated Fraser-Pryce as an exceptional role model who embodies hope and positivism in the lives of many. Through her Pocket Rocket Foundation, she has profoundly influenced young athletes. Over the years, she has provided many scholarships and grants that pave the way for bright futures.
He expressed that Fraser-Pryce is “more than deserving of this honor,” emphasizing how her influence will continue to inspire and shape the future of athletics and community service.

Mayor of Kingston, Councilor Andrew Swaby, shared exciting news about plans to celebrate the athlete’s remarkable work and legacy.
According to Mayor Swaby, engaging discussions are underway with the Civic Committee and other stakeholders. The Wolmers Girls High School’s principal and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Pocket Rocket Foundation members are included in the talks.
