Two armed individuals were fatally shot by law enforcement on Saturday, July 20, 2024, during an operation to apprehend wanted suspects in the West Prospect community of St Catherine. Additionally, two officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
The deceased individuals were identified as Peter Davis, alias ‘Devil’, and Tavani Benjamin.
Law enforcement labeled Davis as one of St Catherine’s top five most wanted suspects, while Benjamin was named as a person of interest in a homicide case.
Three firearms were seized by the authorities during the operation.
According to reports, the police acted on intelligence and initiated the operation in the community at approximately 5:15 a.m. The officers came under heavy gunfire during the operation, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to two officers.
Although the armed individuals managed to escape the initial confrontation, they were intercepted by other members of the police team within the community. Despite attempts to evade capture, Davis and Benjamin were wounded and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The police Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, as well as the Independent Commission of Investigations, are currently looking into the incident.
Police charged a St Catherine man with the fatal 2021 attack in Hellshire.
Marlan Wilson, 28, also known as ‘Jordon’ from Hellshire, St Catherine, has been accused of the 2021 murder of 41-year-old Charles Martell from Hellshire Drive, St Catherine.

The Hellshire police reported that on Monday, January 10, 2021, at approximately 7:15 p.m., Wilson and four others armed with machetes, knives, and ice picks forcefully entered Martell’s home and inflicted multiple wounds to his upper body.
As a result of the attack, Martell was rushed to the hospital in serious condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday, March 26, 2021.
On Wednesday, July 17, 2024, Wilson was arrested by law enforcement officers following a domestic dispute. Subsequently, he was charged with Martell’s murder in the presence of his attorney. His court appearance date is pending.
Armed Robbery and Shooting at Crofts Hill, Clarendon.
Reports indicate that on the night of Friday, July 19, 2024, a 41-year-old bartender was shot and injured by robbers as he attempted to flee a robbery at a bar in Crofts Hill, Clarendon.

The incident unfolded around 10:30 p.m. when armed individuals entered the bar and robbed the patrons, seizing their belongings and an unspecified amount of money. Subsequently, the bartender fled the scene and was shot by the assailants, who then fled the area.
The Crofts Hill Criminal Investigation Branch is currently investigating the matter.
Manchester Man Charged with Rape and Forcible Abduction
A 36-year-old Manchester technician, Nickoy Johnson, also known as ‘Sixteen,’ has been charged by The Mandeville Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he offered a ride.
The indictment, which took place on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, includes charges of rape, grievous sexual assault, indecent assault, and forcible abduction against Johnson.
It is reported that on July 11, 2024, Johnson offered the woman a ride to Mandeville in his car, but instead diverted into a section of his community where the alleged sexual assault took place.
Following the complaint filed by the woman, the police arrested Johnson was arrested, and after a positive identification during an identification parade, he was formally charged by the police on Wednesday, July 17.
The date of his court appearance is pending.
