Mechanic Gunned Down in Ocho Rios, St Ann.

A tragic incident unfolded in Ocho Rios, St Ann on the evening of February 28, 2024, as a mechanic, Chadwayne Gayle, also known as ‘Scary’ of Jacks River, St Mary, fell victim to a fatal shooting. The harrowing event took place around 8:30 pm on Milford Road, near a garage, where Gayle was ambushed by a gunman who mercilessly opened fire, inflicting multiple fatal wounds.

Despite efforts to save his life, Gayle succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital. The authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

This tragic incident adds to the concerning trend of violence in St Ann, with at least ten recorded murders since the beginning of 2024.

A man was severely assaulted by a mob after allegedly brandishing an illegal firearm at party supporters during the Local Government Election in Lucea, Hanover, on Monday, February 26, 2024. He is currently under police guard at the hospital and is expected to face multiple criminal charges upon his discharge.

According to investigators, the 38-year-old man, a resident of Lilliput, St. James, was part of a group celebrating the People’s National Party’s victory in Hanover when he reportedly displayed the firearm in a threatening manner. This led to an altercation during which he was attacked, beaten, and disarmed, sustaining serious injuries that required immediate medical attention.

The Hanover police later retrieved the firearm from a section of the Kew district in Lucea after it was handed over by members of the public on Tuesday, February 26, 2024. It is believed to be connected to the incident on Monday.

A 15-year-old boy, along with three other males, has been apprehended for their alleged involvement in the arson of the Exchange Seventh Day Adventist Church in St Ann on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Head of the St Ann Police, revealed that the other individuals involved are two 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old.

The authorities reported that the males not only looted several items from the church but also set fire to sections of the building. Both the fire brigade and the police were summoned to the location.

SSP Powell stated that the law enforcement personnel successfully intercepted the suspects following standard cooling-down procedures. It was further mentioned that the charges against the suspects will be adjusted per the outcome of the ongoing investigations.

The Commanding Officer for the Area 1 Police Division, Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers, has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man. The incident allegedly occurred after the individual set fire to the vehicle of People’s National Party councilor candidate Jason Cummings on February 15, 2024.

Following the arson attack, 44-year-old Kenroy Doeman was found with bullet wounds later that day in an area known as Africa, close to his home.

ACP Chambers informed Radio Jamaica News that charges have not yet been brought against those in custody, but investigations are advanced.

Three women, Ann-Marie Smith, Shantae Jarrett, and Georgia Gray, found themselves in legal trouble as they appeared in the St James Parish Court on charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and malicious destruction of property.

The alleged incident unfolded on January 13, 2024, when a confrontation erupted between the accused and another woman on their way to Kensington. The complainant reported that she was subjected to physical assault, including having her blouse ripped off and her gold necklace damaged during the altercation. Additionally, the complainant’s crossbody bag, which contained $16,000, went missing during the incident.

During the court hearing, it was revealed that the accused daughters admitted to the crime, justifying their actions as defending their mother. However, the complainant was not present, leading the presiding Judge, Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley, to postpone the case until March 13, 2024, to consider mediation. The judge extended the bail for the accused women.
