Tragic Accident Claims Lives on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, a tragic motor vehicle accident unfolded on Richmond Main Road in St. Ann, Jamaica, resulting in the loss of two lives, including that of a police corporal.

As reported by the Police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the fatal incident took place around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. The CCU detailed that the policeman and a male passenger were traveling along the roadway when a Toyota Axio motorcar traveling in the opposite direction lost control and collided with their vehicle.

Following the collision, law enforcement authorities swiftly responded and transported the injured individuals to the hospital, where both the policeman and his passenger tragically succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the Axio was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The deceased officer was serving in the St. Ann Police Division, adding further poignancy to the loss. The St. Ann police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this harrowing incident.

Man shot after reportedly attacking the police in Westmoreland.

In an incident on Saturday, December 23, 2023, law enforcement officers in Westmoreland shot and injured a suspect who opened fire at the police in an attempt to evade apprehension in Whitehouse, Westmoreland.

The individual, known as George Ramsay or “Crocodile,” was admitted in serious condition to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital and is currently under police guard.

Acting Senior Superintendent of Police for Westmoreland, Adrian Hamilton reported that the confrontation occurred around 9:15 p.m. when a police team on foot patrol responded to an alleged crime scene. Upon the approach of the officers, the suspect drew a firearm and began firing. In response, the officers returned fire, and the suspect fled into nearby bushes, continuing to shoot.

Following the cessation of gunfire, a search led to the discovery of the suspect with multiple gunshot wounds, in possession of a 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition.

In a separate incident, a man was arrested in relation to the seizure of a gun by an off-duty policeman on the Belle Isle main road in Grange Hill, Westmoreland, early Sunday, December 24, 2023.

Suspected Robbers Shot Dead by Licensed Firearm Holders at Party in Junction

Two out of three individuals who reportedly tried to rob attendees at an event in Tryall Square, Junction in St Elizabeth on Sunday morning, December 24, 2023, were fatally shot when confronted by licensed firearm holders.

The deceased individuals have been identified by the authorities as Christopher Gardener and Chevon Hall, also known as ‘Munga.’

According to media reports, Acting Superintendent Coleridge Minto, the spokesperson for the St Elizabeth Police Division, stated that both men, who hailed from Clarendon, were suspects in several armed robberies in St Elizabeth.

The Police have stated that they are actively pursuing another individual involved in the attempted robbery at the event in Tryall Square.

Subsequent to the fatal shooting, one suspect was taken into custody by the Police.

Acting Superintendent Minto has urged those contemplating disruptive acts in St Elizabeth to cease their activities.
