KINGSTON, Jamaica–Law enforcement officers from the West Kingston Police Department shot and killed alleged gang leader Nackeem ‘Jack A Diamond’ Mullings, 27, Friday morning, December 1, 2023, during a confrontation along Maxfield Avenue in St Andrew.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened around 12:20 a.m. Friday morning.
The details about the shooting are still unclear, but some residents are questioning the security force’s claim of a shootout.
They believe that Mullings was killed without reason.
A resident said, “He was going to a party, and they stopped the car, he got out and said I’m Jack a Diamond, and they shot him… he even asked them why they were shooting him!”
The security forces are closely monitoring the area as protesters have gathered, threatening to block the usual flow of the Maxfield Avenue corridor.

Residents of Sunlight Street in Kingston 13 are concerned that the recent shooting of a reputed gang leader could have negative consequences.
The police claim that they shot the individual in self-defense, but some residents, who remain anonymous out of fear, assert that he was unarmed.
A police officer involved in the investigation stated that they believed the individual had a wanted person in their company, and when instructed to exit the vehicle, one person ran, and the driver fired at the police, prompting a return of gunfire. Residents protested briefly, but police quickly restored order.
The deceased individual, who was recently before the court on assault and firearm-related charges, was seen as the leader of the Sunlight Street Gang.
The residents do not dispute his influence but maintain that he was not armed when confronted by the police. Since his death, the police have been on high alert due to threats made by individuals associated with his faction, warning them not to act on these threats.
