MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Law enforcement officers in Manchester are searching for at least ten suspects who greeted them with heavy gunfire when they responded to an attempted break-in at a Spaulding supermarket early Thursday morning, November 23, 2023.
According to reports, at about 3:00 am, ten armed men traveling in at least three cars attempted to break into a supermarket located close to the border of Manchester and Clarendon.
The police responded, and the robbers reportedly opened heavy gunfire at the police.
The gunmen managed to escape and reportedly abandoned two motor cars at the Walderston and Spring Ground border.
The authorities said one of the vehicles was reported stolen.
There were no reports of injuries to any member of the police team.
Man shot during alleged mele with a cop in Westmoreland.
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica—Law enforcement authorities said the police shot and injured a man after he attempted to disarm a policeman during a brawl on Beckford Street in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
The police said the unnamed individual was hospitalized under police guard.
According to reports, at about 2:30 pm, a police team on foot patrol observed two men fighting and intervened.
The police said the suspect had a stone in one of his hands and a piece of board in the other. One of the officers instructed the man to drop the objects, but he refused. He then threatened to use them on the officers if they tried to apprehend him.
The officers advanced toward the suspect, and he allegedly attempted to throw the stone at the officers. One of the officers grabbed onto him and tried to subdue him. A skirmish ensued.
During the brawl, both men fell to the ground, and the cop’s gun fell from its holster. The cop retrieved it, and the man reportedly attempted to gain control of the firearm.
The men locked horns once again, and a round was discharged from the officer’s weapon.
Another policeman reportedly used his baton to strike the man on his right leg to subdue him.
He was subsequently restrained and transported to the hospital, where he was treated for a wound to his right leg and admitted.
The cop with whom he had the tussle was treated for minor injuries.
