OLD HARBOR, ST CATHERINE, JamaicaNarcotics Gumshoes charged a Manchester man following the seizure of cocaine valued at over $10,000,000 found onboard a Nissan Titan motor car that the police intercepted in Old Harbor, St Catherine, on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

The police charged Andrew Walcott, 36, an electrician from Clarks Town, Manchester, and West Street Cottage Complex in Old Harbor, St Catherine, with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, trafficking cocaine, and possession of criminal property.

The police stated that at about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2023, a team of law enforcement officers from the Narcotics and St Catherine South Divisions carried out an anti-narcotics operation at West Street Cottage Complex in Old Harbor where the team intercepted a Nissan Titan motor car driven by Walcott – the lone occupant aboard the vehicle.

The officers searched the vehicle. During the search, they found two rectangular parcels containing a white solid substance resembling cocaine weighing approximately two kilograms and cash totaling $10,000 onboard the vehicle.

The police seized the vehicle, cash, and drugs and arrested Walcott.

The police subsequently charged Walcott. His court appearance date is pending.

The authorities believe the deceased was one of the eight inmates who escaped during a jailbreak on June 19, 2023, at the Black River police station lock-up in St Elizabeth.

The police identified the deceased as Dean Simpson, a resident of Turner Top in St Elizabeth. He was in custody for robbery with aggravation when he escaped. According to the police, Simpson was a suspect in several armed robberies and murders committed in Manchester in recent weeks.

No love is lost between Simpson and the residents of Downs District. They hailed him as a troublemaker in the community.

“At least we can have some peace of mind going into Christmas,” one resident quipped.

A police source said that at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, November 18, 2023, the police responded to a robbery at a nightclub in Down District. Simpson allegedly opened fire on the police.

The officers took evasive action and returned fire, hitting Simpson. The law enforcement officers transported him to the hospital, where authorities pronounced him dead.

The police seized one firearm at the scene.
