Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Stewart Beckford, says rubbish behind the Central Sorting Office on South Camp Road was the source of the fire at the building on Monday morning, October 23, 2023
According to Commissioner Beckford, when firefighters arrived on the scene, they observed rubbish at the back of the building. They theorized that sparks from the fire entered the building through a vent and landed in a room with papers and old equipment.
Police arrested son after allegedly stabbed mother to death.
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Police attached to the St Andrew North Police Department arrested a 35-year-old male suspect after he allegedly stabbed his 55-year-old U.S. resident’s mother to death during a family dispute on Monday, October 23, 2023, at a Wavell Avenue address in St Andrew.
The authorities identified the dead woman as Marvel Johnson, age 55, a late resident of North West 30th Street in Lauder Lake, Florida.
According to reports, at about 7:20 a.m., Johnson, visiting the island recently from the United States, went to Wavell Avenue to look for relatives and treat her son.
While inside one of the bedrooms, her son allegedly attacked her with a knife and stabbed her multiple times all over her body.
Relatives reportedly heard her crying for help, went to her assistance, and pulled the suspect away. Then they called the Police. The Police transported Johnson to the Kingston Public Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment.
The Police seized a knife they believed was the murder weapon.
The authorities arrested the suspect, pending further investigation.
St Ann man killed, woman wounded in gun attack,
Early Monday Morning, October 23, 2023, a lone thug shot and killed a man while driving his motor car along Prosper Hall Road in Exchange with his girlfriend and stepdaughter aboard.
The authorities identified the deceased as Terrence Williams, age 45, a late supervisor of Total Service Station from Prosper Hall in Exchange.
According to reports, at about 12:10, Williams was driving with his girlfriend and stepdaughter on Prosper Hall Road when a man in a black hoodie and face mask opened fire at their car, hitting Williams and his girlfriend while their daughter escaped injuries.
The gunman escaped on foot.
The Police responded and found Mr. Williams slumped over the car’s steering wheel, which had collided with a wall.
Hospital authorities pronounced Williams dead and admitted this 36-year-old girlfriend for treatment.
