WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— Law enforcement officers in Westmoreland shot and killed two suspects during an alleged shoot-out in Spring Garden on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. 

Relatives identified the deceased as Romario Dawkins, age 25, and Dean Woolery, both late residents of the Spring Garden community.

According to the Little London police, at about 12:30 p.m., the police conducted an operation in the community. They encountered Dawkins and Woolery during the raid, and the men engaged the police in a shoot-out.

When all was said and done, the police found both suspects suffering from gunshot wounds. The police rushed them to the hospital, where they died.

Two guns were recovered from the scene by the law enforcement officers.

INDECOM is investigating the shooting.

The police confirmed most rapes reported in St. Ann are against Children.

On Monday, September 25, 2023, law enforcement authorities in the St. Ann Police Division confirmed that most rape cases recorded in the parish this year have been against children.

The shocking revelation came after the rape and murder of 8-year-old Talia Thompson in Discovery Bay on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The police said at about 3:15 on Saturday afternoon, Talia’s uncle took her from her house on Fort Land Road and brought her to his house. 

The suspect allegedly raped her and stabbed her multiple times. 

The police took the 27-year-old man into custody following a failed suicide attempt.

The authorities said the number of rapes committed against young girls in the parish is troubling.
