Police charged one of three suspects who allegedly attempted to assassinate a cop.

ST ANN, Jamaica — The St. Ann police charged a suspect the police believe is one of three thugs who allegedly shot at the police in an assassination attempt along the Irons Mountain Main Road on August 19, 2023.

The police identified the suspect as Omar Thomas, o/c ‘Robb,’ age 35, a taxi operator of Church Street, Harrison Town, in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

The police charged Thomas with shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.

According to the police report, at about 6:30 pm, on the day in question, the cop was traveling towards Moneague in the parish when a white Toyota Axio motor car with flashing headlights pulled behind his vehicle. The cop reportedly pulled over, and the driver of the Toyota Axio used the motor car to block the vehicle the cop drove. 

Suddenly, three armed men alighted from the Toyota Axio motor car and allegedly opened gunfire at the policeman. He took evasive action and returned the fire.

The Toyota Axio motor car reportedly sped away and crashed into a barrier, and the gunmen escaped.

The injured cop was taken to the hospital by colleagues who had responded to the scene. 

The police subsequently found Thomas suffering from gunshot wounds. The cops transported him to the hospital, where the authorities treated him and handed him over to the police.

On Friday, September 01, 2023, the complainant pointed out Thomas on an identification. 

The police charged him after a question and answer session on Monday, September 04, 2023.

His court date is pending. 

The police are actively searching for the other two suspects.

Police charged ‘Boom’ with the murder of a Black River chef in June. 

ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — The St. Elizabeth police charged a suspect connected to the fatal shooting of a Black River chef on Brigade Street, Black River, St. Elizabeth, on June 23, 2023.

The police identified the deceased as Kerm Jones, o/c Scooter, age 26, a late chef of a Brigade Street address in Black River, St. Elizabeth.

The police charged D’Andre Panton, o/c ‘Boom,’ with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and aiding and abetting murder. 

According to reporting, Jones met his demise when men traveling in a Toyota Axio motor car attacked him and shot him as he walked along the roadway.

The police arrested Panton on August 29, 2023, during a targeted raid in Black River.

Detectives from the Black River Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) charged Panton after a question and answer session.

His court date is pending.
