The Area One Police reported that it had recovered 19 prohibited weapons and an assortment of ammunition in a 15-day surge operation across four police divisions– St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover, and sections of Trelawny.

Also, the police arrested one wanted man and shot and killed two suspected gang members during confrontations with the police.

Assistant Commissioner Vernon Ellis, acting head of the Area One Police, said several high-powered weapons were among the guns recovered.

“We recovered four high-powered weapons – two AK-47s, one M16 rifle, and one Intratec submachine gun. We recovered two shotguns and 11 pistols. Some of the pistols are modified– fitted with chips that allowed them to fire as automatic weapons,” he revealed.

In addition, the police reported that they seized a Glock pistol during a targeted operation in Hurlock, St. James, on Monday, August 21, 2023.

St Mary police charged a St Ann taxi operator with rape, buggery, burglary, and assault.

Gum Shoes, assigned to the St Mary Police Division, arrested and charged a suspect with breaches of the Sexual Offences Act concerning an incident in Rio Nuevo, in St Mary, on August 17, 2023.

The police charged Kevin Broomfield, o/c Phoenix, age 45, a taxi operator of Content, St Ann, with rape, buggery, burglary, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The police report stated that at about 9:00 pm on August 17, 2023, Broomfield kicked in the complainant’s door and entered the apartment, and a physical altercation followed.

During the mele, the suspect allegedly struck the complainant in the face several times, rendering her unconscious. When she regained consciousness, she realized the suspect had sexually assaulted her. 

She made a report to the police, and the police arrested Bloomfield. The police subsequently charged him on August 20, 2023, after a question and answer session. 

His court appearance date is pending.
