Thugs gunned down an Off-duty policeman at Pink and Pretty Bar in Clarendon.

The Police High Command reported that a police constable assigned to the St Catherine North Division was shot and killed by armed thugs in Sandy Bay, Clarendon, early Saturday morning, August 05, 2023. 

The police identified the dead constable as Justin Orlando Martin, age 32, a late Jacaranda Homes, St Catherine resident. 

According to reporting, at about 12:10 am, Saturday, August 5, 2023, constable Martin was among patrons at the Pink and Pretty Bar in Sandy Bay when two men brandishing guns entered the space. 

The gunmen recognized Martin as a cop. And a struggle ensued between him and the thugs.

During the struggle, the gunmen shot Martin multiple times and stole his licensed firearm before escaping in a waiting motorcar.

Marting would later succumb to his injuries at the hospital.

The Longville Park police are investigating the matter.

Police charged ‘Faggie’ after gun, ammo allegedly found in car

 ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – St Catherine police arrested and charged a male suspect with breaches of the Firearms Act after finding a gun and ammo in a car he was traveling in during an operation in Old Harbor. 

The police charged Keron Copeland, o/c ‘Faggie,’ age 27, of 7 Miles, Barton’s district, Old Harbour in St Catherine, with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.

According to the Portmore police, on July 29, 2023, Law enforcement officers were conducting an operation in the community when they signaled the driver of a car to stop. The driver complied. And Copeland alighted from the vehicle. The police searched the car. And during the search, they found a Glock 19 pistol with a magazine containing three live rounds. 

The police arrested Copeland. They later charged him.

His court appearance date is pending.

Police charged 18-year-old male following a shooting incident in Portmore.

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Detectives assigned to the Portmore police station arrested and charged a teen with breaches of the Firearms Act following a shooting incident in the community on July 29, 2023.

The police charged Kawasi Smith, age 18, a laborer of Portmore Villa, Gregory Park, St Catherine, with assault at common law, unauthorized possession of prohibited ammunition, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

According to the Portmore police, at about 8:27 pm, on July 29, 2023, the complainant was at a business place on Baptist Road in St Catherine when he heard an explosion. Shortly afterward, two men approached him. One brandished a firearm and pointed it at him. He became fearful for his life and, in defense, pulled his gun and opened gunfire toward the men.

The men scampered for cover and escaped.

Smith later turned up at the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. The authorities treated him and turned him over to the police.

The police subsequently charged him following an ID parade and a question and answer session.

Smith’s court appearance date is pending.
