No Doubt’s lead singers, Gwen Stefani, and David Stewart, co-wrote the song. It features a reggae production from Sly and Robbie and guest vocals from Lady Saw. ‘Underneath It All’ was released as the album’s third single in July 2002. It became No Doubt’s highest-charting US single.

‘Underneath It All’ won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 46th Grammy Awards. And the song was featured in the 2004 film 50 First Dates.

“It’s good to know that it went platinum. Wow, that is good news,” Lady Saw responded when she spoke to the media after the news broke.

Lady Saw then recalled how the collab with No Doubt was born.

“This collaboration came about when Sly and Robbie called me because No Doubt was in Jamaica looking to work with the best of the best, and I was one of them. I went into the studio, and I wrote the lyrics right there, really quick, and they were like bravo, bravo, just applauding me because I was that quick at writing the lyrics,” said Hall.
