According to media reports on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, thugs shot and wounded a careless police officer during a robbery in York Town, Clarendon, where he had accompanied a friend to purchase a motorcycle.

The police report stated that a friend of the cop had arranged to purchase a motorcycle from a seller at a particular location in Clarendon. So, the police officer and his friend traveled to the Parnassus community. And while they waited for the person selling the motorcycle, a grey Toyota Probox motorcar with men aboard pulled up.

The men exited the Probox, held up the potential buyer, and robbed him of $200,000. Then, the thugs opened gunfire at the law enforcement officer and his friend, hitting the cop.

The police officer returned gunfire toward the gunmen. The robbers escaped into the area on foot, leaving the Probox behind.

The injured cop’s colleagues took him to the hospital for treatment.

Clarendon police killed one of its most wanted men ‘John Tom’ in a shootout.

The Clarendon police confirmed that they had shot and killed one of the parish’s most wanted criminals in a shootout on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

The police identified the deceased criminal as Romaine ‘John Tom’ Murray, age 21. 

On August 22 last year, the police named Murray one of Clarendon’s five most wanted men.

According to preliminary reports, the police got information that ‘John Tom’ was hiding at a house in the Greenwood community, located on the border of Trelawny and St James.

So, a team of Clarendon and St James Divisions law enforcement officers gave Murray a surprise visit to his hideout. And a shootout ensued, during which the police shot and wounded Murray. 

The police rushed him to the hospital, where he died.
