Pandemonium broke out at the Ascot Primary School in Portmore, St. Catherine, Tuesday afternoon, June 13, 2023, following the shooting death of a taxi operator near the school compound.
The police identified the deceased as Akeem Whyte, o/c ‘Russian,’ age 27, late of West Greater Portmore, St Catherine.
According to a preliminary report, the shooting occurred at about 1:35 pm. The taxi operator was picking up students along Braeton Park Main Road when a lone gunman approached him and opened fire.
An eyewitness says Whyte ran towards a tree and collapsed.
A citizen rushed the wounded man to the hospital, where he died.
One investigator said the shooter did not physically harm any of the children. But many are traumatized as the shooting occurred in clear view of many students.
The police recovered several spent shells at the scene. They are yet to establish a motive for the shooting.
Police released a computer-generated image of the female suspect in Danielle Rowe’s death.
The police have released a computer-generated image of a woman they believe can assist them with information concerning the death of little Danielle Rowe.

The police said they used an electronic facial identification technique to develop the image of the woman.
They ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the Half Way Tree Police at 876-926-8184/5.
An unidentified woman took eight-year-old Danielle Rowe from the Braeton Primary and Infant School in Portmore, St. Catherine, last Thursday, June 8, 2023. A motorist found her later that day in St Andrew with her throat cut.
She died on Saturday, June 10, while in the hospital.
